It’s rare to find something original within the realm of YA. Most stories have a deja vu quality about some key aspect, with authors using safe well worn standards plus their own twist to craft semi-new works. Daughter of Smoke and Bone is like nothing I’ve ever read. The setting, characters, concept, and plot give angels and demons a fresh new face. I love the world building in this book and how all the choices Laini Taylor made were unexpected. I also recommend the audiobook version read by the amazing Khristine Hvam. She’s one of my favorite narrators and has a great voice for reading YA.
