Book of the Week!!! 04/03-04/09

April 3, 2012 by unwasted words

With the wait for Bitterblue coming to an end and the closure of the series close at hand, I wanted to highlight the book that started it all. Graceling is still one of the best fantasies I have read to date. Kristin Cashore  made quite an impression with a kick-ass heroine, romantic love story, interesting world, and an amazing concept. YA Fantasy doesn’t get much better than Graceling.  Get a copy Graceling on Amazon here.

Loads of Action & Twists, None of The Long Recaps

February 29, 2012 by unwasted words

By A Thread by Jennifer Estep The aftermath begins with a nice quiet getaway where no one’s trying to assassinate the assassin. At least, that was the idea. Retirement shouldn’t be so much work, especially after you kill the reining kingpin of the local criminal underworld. But infamy has it’s irony, since doing the deed has made the autruistic assassin Ashville’s biggest attraction. Miscreants and minions alike are all vying for position in the villainous vortex that Mab Monroe’s death created. And […]

To Die For

February 29, 2012 by unwasted words

Third Grave Dead Ahead by Darynda Jones read by Lorelei King Hijinks and hilarity ensue when the Grimm Reaper is on the case. Charley’s functioning on a diet of coffee, coffee, and coffee, at this point she’s more likely to be a portal to Starbucks than the other side. Her self induced insomnia is due to one scorned son of Satan passionately haunting her dreams. Every time Charley closes her eyes she’s bombarded with some transcendental loving via one smoking hot […]

A Perfect Book

February 29, 2012 by unwasted words

A Perfect Blood by Kim Harrison read by Marguerite Gavin Being classified as dead, with a newly acknowledged demon status, and magically neutered like a dog, doesn’t suck nearly as much as having to deal with the frustratingly idiotic bureaucracy of the DMV. Rachel Morgan isn’t having a very good life, or afterlife according to the governmental powers that be. But when a low level department minion offers Rachel a case, she quickly finds herself entangled in the plans of a domestic […]

Book of the Week!!! 01/30-02/06

January 30, 2012 by unwasted words

I’m not sure what first lead me to this series. Maybe it was the premise, since the Adult paranormal fiction community hasn’t be over run with Grimm Reapers yet. Or it could have been the appeal of narrator Lorelei King voicing the audiobooks. But something snagged my interest, and I’m glad it did. I immediately fell in love with this series. It’s witty, smart, has an interesting cast and backstory. Second Grave on the Left put a smile on my […]

Book of the Week!!! 01/23-01/30

January 24, 2012 by unwasted words

I just had to do Cinder for Book Of The Week. I can’t stop gushing about this book to anyone who will listen. This inventive retelling is only boasted by the spectacular timing of it’s debut, the muses of great media minds are smiling upon Marissa Meyers with the surge of fairy tale spinoffs in tv and movies. Fans of shows like Once Upon A Time and Grimm will find kindred reading in Meyer’s writings, with her next book based […]

An Inventive Retelling

January 20, 2012 by unwasted words

Cinder: Book One of the Lunar Chronicles  by Marissa Meyer Read by Rebecca Soler Marissa Meyer takes a classic standard like Cinderella and tricks it out, managing to merge nostalgia and a sci-fi spin, creating fairytale fusion with a high tech twist. Cinder is the foremost authority of all things mechanical in New Bejing. Fitting since she’s part robot. But in the modernistic technologically advanced unhappily ever after of Cinder’s world the only thing more reviled than the decrepit state […]

Surprising in Every Way

January 20, 2012 by unwasted words

The Demon Lover by Juliet Dark It’s very rare to pick up a book and have any and all expectations shattered. I thought from the cover to the summary and title that the premise was explicit, that The Demon Lover would be just another typical paranormal romance. But it wasn’t. Everything about this book was a surprise. Callie McFay is use to the hustle and bustle of NYC high society but with the tough economy and jobs at a premium she […]
